Interior design trends for 2021

16th December 2020

As we approach the end of the year, it’s time to start thinking about how you can refresh your home decor.

Whether you’re moving into a new home or simply want to revitalise your current property, this blog post is a source of inspiration and is packed with three of the biggest design trends to look out for in 2021.

Bold and striking wall colours

During recent years, neutral tones seem to be the most popular type of wall colour. Often, we see beautifully decorated homes seamlessly blend neutral tones with vibrant colours from a painting, canvas or accent wall.

However, we predict that next year things will be taken one step further. We anticipate that bold and compelling wall colours will be used on entire walls or rooms. There are a variety of striking colours you can choose from, this includes neutral hues or even dark undertones which will allow you to create a vibrant colour scheme.

Although it’s tempting to get a little “paint happy” and start covering every surface in a bold colour, we recommend that you take the time to carefully consider how colour can influence the way you feel.

Contrasting colours and furniture

Continuing the theme of colour, it’s worth noting that Pantone have selected two shades as its colour of the year for 2021. Ultimate Gray and Illuminating - the concept is designed to provide energy, clarity and hope, whilst offering people the opportunity to opt for the more resilient grey tone or optimistic yellow hue.

We believe that Pantone’s selection has paved the way for us to add even more contrast to our homes. Naturally, this can be achieved through colours as mentioned above. But for even greater contrast you can add a variety of furniture types - like angular shapes, lighter woods or stone materials - to your home and create an elegant and stylish scheme.

Arts and crafts

Throughout the lockdown period arts, crafts and self-made items rapidly grew in popularity. At first, crafting was seen as a way for individuals to express their creative prowess.  But as we enter the new year, there’s an increasing appetite to add hand-crafted items to our homes.

The arts and craft trend has gained momentum as people begin to appreciate the value of handmade decorative items and styles. From curtains to cushions, there are countless items that can help to bring glamour or a vintage feel to your home.

We hope that this blog post has given you some food for thought and provided inspiration for ways that you can improve the look and feel of your home. Have any tips or design trends that you’d like to share? Let us know on Twitter
